About WorkWise
An independent publication about home offices, ergonomics, and the small productivity habits that make remote work sustainable. Run from a desk in a converted attic, by someone who actually uses the stuff.
The short version
WorkWise is run by Marcus Reid, a former software engineer who has worked remotely full-time since 2014. He started the site in 2023 after a decade of trial-and-error figuring out what makes a home office actually work β and what doesn't.
Most "best of" lists online are spun up in an afternoon by people who never touched the products. That's how you end up with a $400 chair that wrecks your back in three months, or a "4K productivity monitor" with text so smeared you give up after a week. WorkWise exists because Marcus got tired of that.
How we test and choose recommendations
- Hands-on where possible. Marcus personally owns or has long-term tested most of the gear featured in our buying guides. When something's only been in his hands for a week, we say so.
- Cross-referenced when we can't. For products we haven't personally used (some categories are expensive), we synthesize verified buyer reviews, manufacturer specs, and published ergonomics research β and clearly mark which is which.
- No pay-for-placement. We do not accept money to rank products higher. Brands cannot buy a spot in our roundups. We've turned down several offers; we'll turn down more.
- We update. Old picks get retired when something better arrives. If you spot something out of date, let us know β we read every message.
How we make money (and what we won't do)
WorkWise is reader-supported. When you click a link to a retailer like Amazon and buy something, we may earn a small commission β at no extra cost to you. We also display a limited number of display ads. These two revenue streams let us spend real time on research instead of churning out filler.
What we explicitly don't do:
- Run "sponsored reviews" disguised as objective ones.
- Publish guest posts from PR companies pretending to be from independent writers.
- Recommend a product just because its affiliate commission is higher.
- Sell your email address, ever.

Who's behind WorkWise
Marcus writes most of the articles here and edits everything that gets published. He's been working from home since before "WFH" was a hashtag β through three apartments, a house, and currently a converted attic with seriously sloped ceilings. Read more on his author page.
WorkWise occasionally features contributions from other long-time remote workers Marcus trusts. When that happens, you'll see their byline at the top of the article.
